Folsom: Beautiful, growing, high-tech

Folsom is.....

One of the regions fastest growing cities. Folsom lies along the shores of Folsom Lake and is also famous for the State Prison of the same name. In recent years Folsom has been growing rapidly with shopping centers and new homes popping up at a fast pace. The newest regional shopping and dining experience is the Palladio - now open near the busy intersection of Iron Point Rd. and East Bidwell. If you haven't been to the Palladio it's worth your time to see what the excitement is all about.

The population of Folsom is more than 70,000 and covers 24 square miles. The historic town dates back to the Gold Rush era and the immediate neighborhoods nearby are full of charm and character. In recent years brand new shopping centers and subdivisions are being built eastward from downtown. Many grand, up-scale homes with panoramic valley views are being constructed on the hillsides. A number of new home subdivisions are also under construction in East Folsom. Recently the city annexed a large area to the south of Highway 50 that will eventually be developed with up to 10,000 new homes.

Business in Folsom is booming, and the city is home to several giant high tech companies: Intel, Micron, Verizon and nearby Aerojet-Rocketdyne. Many area businesses have their offices along Iron Point Rd. including Kaiser-Permanente. As a result, Folsom is home to many engineers and medical workers.

Folsom has two public high schools: Folsom High and Vista del Lago. Folsom Lake College now provides exciting educational opportunities and also a theatre that offers big name entertainment enhancing the appeal of the region.

Folsom Dam is a key resource in the area's water system and protects much of Sacramento from winter flooding along the American River. It is a source of power, and a resource for recreational boating. It is a common site to see SUVs and trucks towing boats of various sizes on Folsom streets, all headed to and from the lake. Many homes built on the hills east of the city have magnificent lake and sunset views.

Folsom also lies along Highway 50 and provides quick access to both Downtown Sacramento and, in the other direction, Lake Tahoe. The combination of beautiful geography, high-tech employment, new and historic homes and easy access to both Sacramento and the Sierra make Folsom a highly desirable place to live.
